Buckshot Mine crosscut [2]
California

Interior entrance view of the Buckshot Mine in the Inyo Mountains outside of Independence, California.  This abandoned lead/silver/gold mine has a large tailings pile outside & bores primarily through limestone.  Most work was done over 100 years ago w/ the oldest carbide lamp signatures coinciding w/ the 1920s.  This view shows the long timber beams that reinforce the weak ceiling by the entrance where collapse is common.  The crosscut itself can be explored for about 1/2 mile from the entrance until one reaches a massive cave-in at a wet section of the mine where the bedrock is again weaker.
