Columbia Mine upper adit (interior)
California

Inside the crosscut of the upper adit of the Columbia Mine near Scott Bar, California.  One has to crawl through the partial collapse entrance to get inside.  This dry adit is short leading to a stope that has partially caved-in.  One climbs through the rubble & collapsed support beams into the room.  In the stope one can see the gold-bearing quartz vein that was being mined.  The host rock is serpentine which is unstable & often leads to ceiling collapse.  Outside is the old tailings pile & road w/ some wooden ruins, all overgrown.
