La Foncalada (World Heritage), Oviedo
La Foncalada (World Heritage) Built under the rule of King Alfonso II, this little building known as 'La Foncalada' -due to the latin inscription 'fontem calatam' written on it- remains the only surviving civil architectural item for public use of the High Middle Ages.
It was originally placed near the city walls, by the an ancient roman via.
The decoration on top includes the Victory Cross, symbol of Asturias.
