San Andreas Fault (aerial)
California

A 400' aerial view overlooking the famous San Andreas Fault along Mount Emma Road near Littlerock, California.  The fault was identified in 1895 by professor Andrew Lawson of UC Berkeley & extends throughout California, forming the divide between the Pacific & North American tectonic plates.  The best aerial views of the San Andreas are found in the Carrizo Plain region further north.  A number of noted earthquakes have occurred along the fault including the 1906 San Francisco earthquake.
