Chkalov staircase located on the Volga River near the center of goroda.Takoe name is due to the fact that on top of it is a memorial to military pilot Valery Chkalov. Staircase has 560 steps. The idea to build a ladder first occurred Shulpina Alexander, who served as deputy chairman of the executive committee. War prevented implement a plan for the construction of stairs. Shulpin but not abandoned the idea. In 1943, having gone on a trip to Moscow, he took the project on the Volga slope stairs, which were the architects Mintz, Yakovlev and Rudnev, for approval. Nobody knows how Shulpin Alexander was able to get approval for the allocation of funds for the construction of the stairs on the Volga slope. In 1943, in honor of the victory in the Battle of Stalingrad was laid down stairs. In 1949, construction was completed on the stairs. Stairs going down two huge rings and connected the waterfront and uptown. Chkalov staircase was one of the most expensive projects in the Soviet Union. Required for the construction of 7.76 million rubles. Shulpina accused of wasteful spending of folk remedies. From the mayor Alexander suspended, expelled from the party and arrested.
