Russell-Carillon Pass
California

The view from Russell-Carillon pass is spectacular. Having seen quite a few breathtaking vistas in the range in my backyard, I can say that this was easily one of my favorites. The wisping clouds both above and below added to the visual wonderland before us, though the vistas to Tulainyo Lake (the highest named lake in the US) as well as up to cloud-tickled Mt. Whitney (the highest peak in the lower 48) were sublime on their own. Though our objective of a Mt. Russell summit was not attained during this trip, the side route up Mt. Carillon and the entirety of the day's trip was very memorable.
