The Anglicans’ Church
Riga
St. Saviour’s Church, also known as the Anglican Church was built in the second half of the 19th century for English merchants and sailors, who previously used the Reformation Church for services. The church was built on the site of the former Paul’s bastion, as this place was assigned for the English when the city ramparts were torn down. A layer of earth and red bricks were brought, according to legend, straight from Britain for this construction. This is one of the brightest samples of eclecticism in Old Riga. The Anglican Church belongs to the Church of England.

More About Riga

Originated from a small fishermen village, for centuries Riga has been an important part of the trade chain between Russia and Western Europe. A lively crossroad of cultures and backgrounds for over 800 years, the historical centre of Riga has accumulated an impressive cultural baggage and today is justly included in the UNESCO’s World Heritage list.
