Tonsina River Lodge and Roadhouse off the Richardson Highway in Alaska
Alaska

The Tonsina River Lodge and Bar, Restaurant, Lounge, RV Park, Liquor Store, Campground, Laundromat, Juice Bar, Sauna, Day Spa and Airstrip is a traditional stop when traveling between Glennallen and Valdez on the Richardson Highway. It is located at Mile Post 79 just south of where the Tonsina River crosses under the highway.

Just northeast of the lodge is the old three story Tonsina Hotel. This is reputed to be an old army barracks building which was built in Valdez around 1910 and brought to this site in 1928. During the construction of the Trans Alaska Pipeline, the lodge, hotel and airstrip served as an important staging area for materials and construction crews.

The lodge is presently managed by a group of Russian-Americans who serve up what is probably the best borsch in Alaska.
