高雄港自由貿易港區第六貨櫃中心，是「高雄港洲際貨櫃中心」計畫第一期的工程。所謂自由貿易港區，代表在國家關稅領域範圍內劃定的特定區域，准許外國商品自由進入區內從事各種貿易活動，不需辦理通關、清關手續，並可在區內自由流通或再出口。此區預定興建4座水深16.5公尺的貨櫃碼頭。港務局開闢此貨櫃中心，是為了強化整體資源的運用，並打造高雄港市的形象。
